Why don’t teens think?
Perhaps there is an explanation after all for why some teenagers are so notoriously difficult: their minds cannot yet fully reason. Researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland and UCLA studied the brain development of 13 healthy children and teens for eight to ten years from ages 4 to 21. The researchers took periodic scans of their brains and used brain-mapping technology. Areas in the extreme front and back of the brain, governing basic functions like smell, hearing and sight, are the first to mature. The upper-middle portion of the brain, which governs movement and touch, appears to mature next. Next come the parietal lobes, associated with language and spatial orientation –the ability to bring together sight, touch and other perceptions to get your bearings in various surroundings. Last is the prefrontal cortex, which controls reasoning and decision-making. This doesn’t mature until sometime between the ages of 18 and 21.

Honey for your Health
If you are a fan of honey as a natural sweetener—buy locally. The honey nearest your home is the healthiest because it contains the aroma from local trees and blossoms which compliment your system. Your body is in rhythm with where you live. I believe this could help with allergies as well.

Preventing Migraines
Dr. Richard B. Lipton, a neurology professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY reports there are safe alternatives with a firm scientific basis for preventing migraines for people who don’t want to take prescription drugs and also as a complement to prescription drugs. Daily doses of some prescription blood pressure drugs, anti-depressants and anti-seizure drugs can be taken as preventives, but have significant side effects and don’t help everyone. Over-the-counter dietary supplements include: Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10): 300 milligrams daily Magnesium: 360 milligrams to 1 gram daily Riboflavin (vitamin B-2): 400 milligrams Feverfew (herbal relative of the daisy): May prevent some of the blood vessel dilation associated with migraine pain. Magnesium-riboflavin-feverfew combinations: Brand names: MigreLief and MigraHealth Butterbur root extract: brand name Petadolex Please consult your own physician.
